Ginger is a healthy food that fights inflammation, reduces blood pressure, promotes blood sugar control, and stimulates the digestive system. Ginger could also speed weight loss. Egyptian researchers, in a study on rats, found that ginger supplements promoted weight loss as well as orlistat (sold as Xenical or Alli). Orlistat blocks fat absorption in the gut and is one of the few drugs approved for weight loss. Unlike orlistat, ginger did not hamper the action of normal fat metabolism.
